How to book a cheap hotel in Rome 3 stars

Friends are often asked to recommend and help bookcheap hotel in romeOf course, to be conveniently located and pleasant inside. So to say the best option for minimal money. I’ll immediately warn you that the concept of inexpensive and high-quality starts in Rome with marks of 80-100 euros per day.

Today, we will simulate the situation of your trip using a real example and try to choose hotels as if the local resident, that is, me, would choose it.

To whom these options are not suitable, see articles on inexpensive hostels in the center of Rome and luxury hotels - 4-star and 5-star.

What affects the cost of living

  • high / low season. Hotels boldly raise prices 2-3 times during the holidays or just when they run out of rooms. You can also take risks and look for a hotel for a couple of days hoping for a stock, but I myself do not prefer to do this and do not advise you.
  • often the low price is caused by unpleasant factors that you will learn about upon arrival. For example, in Rome, you should not live near the central station of Termini - this is the area of immigrants from Bangladesh and even the indigenous people do not really like to be there. It is worth recognizing that there are many hotels there, but ... as they say, everyone decides for himself, and the avaricious pays twice. A lively hiking trail can also take place near the hotel and you will not be able to get enough normal sleep.

The purpose of this article is to give you a point of reference so that you understand the principle of hotel selection based on my personal experience.

Hotel search and reservation criteria

  • Find a hotel in Rome 3 stars for 5 days in 3 months. The length of stay and the search period can be shortened, we take this example to avoid inaccuracies.
  • keep within the budget of 80-100 euros per day
  • the location should be convenient for sightseeing and at the same time be in a safe area, not near Termini. It is advisable near the metro to conveniently get to the airport, the sea and anywhere. Options with "By bus you can easily get to ..." we do not consider, since it’s rather difficult for a tourist to understand the local system. We are going to rest, so everything should be simple and clear, as much as possible in Italy.
  • It is important that we are looking for a hotel, because we want to have a reception, the comfort of going to the shower in the room, and not on the floor. As one of my friends said: “I'd rather stay at home than wash on the corridor.” It is worth considering this moment.

I advise an inexpensive hotel to search and book at least 3 months in advance. In an overview for example, I am looking for a 3 star hotel in March, and plan to arrive in June.

We enter the dates of the city of Rome in the search for booking, as well as sort the hotels output by price.

Top 11 Hotels

In the beginning we will be offered the most budget options, but these are campsites, hostels or hotels located in a deep pope. We’ll talk about choosing the best options in this range another time.

In the left column in the column"Select by criteria" put a checkmark in the range of price per night 50-149 euros, as well as the number of stars 3 or 4.

pay attention to item "special offers", often using it you can run into really profitable offers with discounts up to 70%. We do not set it, since our task is to consider as realistic options as possible. Special offers and so will be shown to us.

Hotel artis

so first decent option i see the hotelHotel artis 4 stars for 315 euros with breakfast, and by the way they are different in every hotel. In most cases, in Italy it is coffee with pastries. Here we see the full buffet in the photo. This is encouraging.

Hotel Artis is located about 500 meters from the Alessandrino station of the Roma Pantano line, near the A90 motorway exit. Termini Station can be reached from the Subaugusta and Cinecittà metro stations in about 15 minutes. Yes, it’s not in the center, but next to the metro and for 1.5 euros you can get anywhere to any attraction in 30-40 minutes. Please note the item “Room rate does not include: EUR 3 city tax per person per night”. That is, for two you have to pay 2 people x 3 euros x 5 nights = 30 euros. Total 345 euros.

Villa rosa

Second decent option hotel Villa rosa 3 stars for 375 euros.

I can tell you about him separately, as our friends stayed here. Strategically, the hotel is well located near Trastevere Station. You can get to it from Fiumicino airport in 25 minutes and for only 8 euros. On tram number 8, which runs regularly enough in 10 minutes, you get to the gastronomic paradise of the Trastevere district. In 15-20 minutes you will find yourself in Venice Square at the Altar of the Fatherland, and there is also the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. Of the minuses, the Internet in the hotel is paid somewhere around 3 euros per day, but in Italy, the Internet is a luxury. And this problem can be solved by buying an Italian SIM card. Given the cost of the city tax of 2 euros per person, the total cost of the room will be 375 + 20 = 395 euros for two with breakfast. I recommend to consider this option.

Hotel aniene

Third worthy option i seeHotel aniene 4 stars for 380 euros.

I admit, at first I didn’t like it because it was a bit far from the center, but the proximity of the Conca d'Oro metro station on line B1 (5 stations to Termini, 7 to the Coliseum), breakfasts and free Wi-Fi (oh gods!) Bribed me. It is also a new modern hotel. There is also a city tax and in the total amount you get 380 + 30 = 410 euros for 5 nights.

Hotel Roma Tiburtina Metro

We look further. Fourth 3 star hotel optionHotel Roma Tiburtina Metro also a little out of the way, but proximity to the metro, wi-fi and breakfasts decide.

The total amount will be 389.50 + 20 = 410 euros for 5 days.

Hotel derby

Fifth. HotelHotel derby has 3 stars and is located in the modern EUR area. Judging by the reviews, a very decent option.

Near the metro, St. Paul’s Basilica, restaurants and shops are really full there. Plus the opportunity to see and compare a slightly different Roman architecture, most of which dates back to the 20th century. Including tax, this option will cost you 425 + 20 = 445 euros for 5 days.

Hotel principe torlonia

Sixth very nice budget hotelHotel principe torlonia It is located in the Nomentano Bridge area, 800 meters from Villa Torlonia and Villa Paganini, and 3 metro stops from Termini Train Station.

Including tax, the total price will be 435 + 30 = 465 euros for 5 days. Please note that breakfast is not included here. Pay for them 110 euros or have breakfast alone together for 22 euros per day, decide for yourself. I would choose the option without them. In any case, they can be ordered additionally at the hotel or eat yourself - in Italy this is not a problem.

Best Western Blu Hotel Roma

Seventh the option is already closer to the center, but the price is rising. The Best Western Blu Hotel Roma has 4 stars, it is new and is a 15-minute walk from the Tiburtina train station and metro.

There is the best option in my opinion with breakfast and free cancellation of the reservation just in case for 472 euros + 30 euros tax for 5 days from two.

In addition to the main Roman attractions, you can quickly get to Tivoli for just a couple of euros. Detailed instructions are in the article "How to get from Rome to Tivoli."

B&B Hotel Roma Trastevere

We are looking further. Eighth option 3 star hotel B&B Hotel Roma Trastevere is again strategically well located from the gastronomic part of the Trastevere district.

On Sundays, possibly the largest flea market of Porte Porteze in Italy is very close. Nearby there are a lot of decent cafes where you can eat normally for 7 euros from the nose, so I wouldn’t take breakfast here. Total with city tax, it goes 490 euros for 5 nights.

Hotel Mercure Roma Corso Trieste

Ninth a nice hotel in my opinion is the Hotel Mercure Roma Corso Trieste three stars.

Located in a quiet residential area 5 km from the historic center of Rome. It features a rooftop bar with panoramic views and a furnished terrace. It offers air-conditioned rooms with free Wi-Fi, which in my opinion is a big plus.

Sant'Agnese-Annibaliano B1 Metro Station is just a short walk away, providing direct access to the Coliseum and Termini Station. Villa Ada Park, with its many summer events, is just 1 km away.

Mercure Roma Piazza Bologna

Tenth The hotel I liked is the Mercure Roma Piazza Bologna

It is not so far from the center in a decent area, and the Bologna metro station is located next to the hotel, from it you can quickly reach the main railway station of Termini, the Coliseum and other attractions. As a result, 496 + 20 = 516 euros.

Hotel firenze

And the last option. Hotel Firenzelocated in the historic center of Rome, just 300 meters from the Spanish Steps.

On booking about him there are both positive and negative reviews, which are compensated by the excellent location. As a result, it will cost you 501.60 + 20 = 522 euros for 5 nights.

I hope this article was useful to you and will help to leave a pleasant impression about your vacation in Rome. If you have any questions, ask them in the comments, I will be glad to tell you.
