Genoa

Beaches of Genoa

Located in the upper left part of the Italian "boot" Genoa (Genova) - a resort loved by many Italians. Here the climate is mild, the cool wind from the sea eliminates the choking heat, and the water off the coast warms up well. Tourists also love to come to Genoa - the rich history of the city allows you to spend time usefully, and if you are tired of wandering along the ancient streets, you can relax while sitting in one of the many cafes or on the seashore.

Unfortunately, beach vacations are not the strongest side of Genoa. This is a port city, so only a small part of the coastline is given to the beaches. One can argue about the purity of water in the very center of the city. Nevertheless, there are beaches in Genoa, moreover, they are incredibly popular among the Genoese themselves and among tourists. Almost all of them are paid. Do not want to pay - you have to look for free options, which are few in the city center.

City beaches

In the center of Genoa there are very few public beaches with free access. Like other beaches in the city, they are small and almost always crowded; in order to take a seat, it is better to arrive early. Genoa allows you to enjoy swimming in sea water much longer than other Italian cities located on the seashore. The season here lasts from May to October, and almost all this time the water, if not warm, is quite suitable for swimming.

Bokkadassa

Boccadasse Beach is the only municipal beach in Genoa. Here you can use a parasol and sun loungers, but you will not find cabanas and showers on the shore: the free service has its drawbacks. The place is very beautiful; photographs of the beach can often be found on souvenir cards; it is a kind of visiting card of the city. The coast here is very narrow, sandy, but there are also rocky sections on it: when going to the beach, bring comfortable rubber slippers with you. There is a bus to the beach along route No. 31, here is its final stop.

Bagni Vittoria

The beach most loved by tourists is called Bagni Vittoria. It is better to come here for those who are not annoyed by noise, and who do not really like to wallow in the sun for hours. Bagni Vittoria has several sports fields; If you are a fan of beach volleyball, then here you will have a great opportunity to improve your athletic shape, and at the same time to sunbathe. It is not necessary to take sports equipment with you: there are several rental points right on the beach.

Albaro

The largest and most popular beach of Genoa is Albaro (Spiaggia Albaro). This is a typical city beach - pebbled, noisy and crowded. It is quite wide, so even on the hottest days you can find free space here, but it's better to take a sunbed early in the morning. The rental price for the sunbed and umbrella is 8 euros per day. Albaro even has a small playground. Near the beach there are many restaurants, shops, etc .; historically, people with high incomes settled here, so Albaro is an area with a well-developed infrastructure.

Corso italy

Corso Italy (Corso Italia) is a large walking area with a length of 2.5 kilometers. The Genoese themselves like to walk on it, admiring the sea and mountains. Walking along the promenade, you can find several beaches, mainly related to the hotels standing here, and therefore, paid. But there is also a very small section of the coast where you can swim for free. It is located at the very beginning of the promenade, in the area of Via Mario Cappello.

Beaches in the suburbs

It is difficult to draw a clear border between the city and the suburban areas of Genoa. Once upon a time there were many small fishing villages in the vicinity of the city, which gradually became part of Greater Genoa. The most remote from the center, although easily accessible by public transport, are located in the east of Nervi, Quarto, Sturla and Quinto, as well as Pelli and Voltri in the western part of the city.

Nerves

Nervi is one of these villages, which for some time has been part of Genoa. The area is located in the east of the city. Distance from the center - 10 kilometers; You can get there by train or bus (No. 15, 17). There are no beaches in our usual sense of the word: the coast is steep, rocky, paths or stairs lead to the water; you can plunge and immediately climb back into the city - if there is a place on the stones, then for one or two people, no more. But in Nervi there are many swimming places for which there is no charge: go along the street with the name Passeggiata A.Garibaldi and look for descents to the water: those indicated by numbers from 4 to 12 (except 8) are free.

Quarto

Quarto (Quarto dei Mille) became part of Genoa in 1926. The beaches here go one after another, all are small, but their number allows you to find free space. The entrance to the water is rocky, but the water is very clear and attracts not only those who wish to swim in cool water in hot weather, but also to watch numerous fish, starfish and other inhabitants of coastal waters. The sea is almost always quiet: the bay in which the beach is located protects it from the winds.

The largest free beach is located directly opposite the Quarto train station (from Genoa you need to go from Brignole station); bus number 15 also stops here. It takes 10 minutes by train and twice as much by bus.
There are also paid beaches in Quarto - there is a pebble shore, it is convenient to approach the water, there are locker rooms, showers, etc.

Sturla

The Sturla district also appeared on the site of a fishing village, it is quite large - more than 8,000 people live here. It is located on the shores of the bay of the same name (Golfo di Sturla). He was annexed to Big Genoa in the 1870s. Many Genoese are convinced that the best beaches in the city are in Sturla. A large free beach, located east of the city center, is filled with people every summer day. Many spend long hours here - along the coastline there are many bars and restaurants offering fresh fish and wonderful Italian wine.

Quinto

Quinto (Quinto del Mare) is the train station next to Quarto. The beaches here are wider and longer, and the number of places suitable for swimming, Quinto in front. In addition, it is in Quinto and Quarto that most of the free beaches are concentrated. There are no fundamental differences from Quarto: the shore is the same. The main thing that can affect your choice is the color of the water; on pebble beaches you will not see that wonderful emerald or turquoise hue, as in those places where the bottom is sandy.

Pogli

The Pegli area is characterized by a large number of parks and rich villas. There are no manufacturing enterprises, but there are many hotels in the area. The beaches of Pella, like the rest in the city, are numerous, small and full of vacationers. It is difficult to find a free swimming place here - most of the coastal areas with a more or less convenient access to the water belong to hotels.

Voltry

The Voltri area is perhaps the most remote from the center of Genoa - the distance between them is 17 kilometers. Of the Voltri beaches, those in the town of Vesima deserve mention; at least 6 of them are free, which anyone can use.
